In 2010 in order to address the increase in user errors of medical equipment (at time leading to fatalities!), an innovative educative learning tool was created by Think.Health.Care.

 

These animated educative videos highlight the benefit and need for SMART e-training, as more industries make the shift to virtual training. These videos were created out of passion, to re-educate and re-train (nurses and physicians) ; a smart and fun way to learn about the falsely low perception of medical equipment risks. This type of training has had a significantly positive impact on both user confidence, breaking habits and patient treatments to date.

 

SMART Educative Videos combining interesting content with an engaging style are a strategic asset for the continuous dissemination of knowledge in any industry. Why are they Smart videos? (i) Timeless script content 10 years on, similar errors are being reported. The script does not emulate user manuals. Rather, the script is based on a decade of clinical engineering data of reported faults (many noted as user errors) and observations; a unique selling point. The script provides timeless fundamentals to educate users across all generic device types irrespective of the manufacturers.  (ii) Storytelling the animation is based on a typical day on the ward. It’s a storytelling, with real life encounters, decisions and errors. (iii) Humour engaging and interactive animation illustrate enlightening user techniques and features and their consequences. It is important to appreciate most healthcare staff are frequent equipment users. As technology gets more sophisticated many fundamentals can get overlooked.  (iv) 5 mins where time is of the essence, a methodology with a focus on high velocity education, where time is of essence in a dynamic environment.
